Absolutely. Trees, as we know, “breathe” CO2 and “exhale” oxygen. When forests are slashed and burned, the CO2 contained by each tree is released into the atmosphere. On the massive scale that deforestation is currently on, this adds up the the leading cause of CO2 emission. This is why Indonesia and Brazil are the #3 and #4 leading countries in greenhouse gas emissions – they don’t have large industiral sectors like the U.S., but they DO have tropical forests that are being cut down and burned every day.
yes, the trees are the lungs of the planet and the largest consumers of CO2.
