Is deer meat pretty lean?

Yes. It’s actually a good, healthy meat to consume. It’s packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals. According to the Butcher & Packer website, they state that deer meat, or venison, is leaner because deer tend to store fat on top of muscle of under the hide.

Yes, deer meat is especially lean. Like deniseapril said, the fat in deer is stored under the skin, as opposed to being stored within the muscle like most other meats. Game animals, such as deer, also get more exercise than do most domestic animals. Therefore, game animals have lower total fat, saturated fat, and calories, making it more lean. Additionally, game animals have more vitamins and nutrients than domestic animals. Deer meat is also rich in iron and B vitamins.
