Really good at what? There is a lot of controversy surrounding DDT. Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring published in 1967, brought many citizens to criticize the pesticide that had previously been praised for it’s ability to rid pests and annoying insects such as mosquitoes, as well as prevent insects from devouring crops. Shortly after her book, DDT was banned in America, however it is noted for it’s success in African countries in preventing malaria by killing disease-carrying mosquitoes.
DDT is a good pesticide for killing insects. However, it kills everything, even the beneficial bugs. DDT is bad because it has serious effects on other non-target species such as frogs and birds.
