Is a crosswind any different than regular wind?

No, a crosswind is merely a wind blowing perpendicular to the an individuals travel or of a directional orientation – it is relevant in wind power in that a crosswind on a wind farm does nothing to a fixed turbine, there are variable axis turbines that could take advantage of this.
