Farmers markets are a great place to buy locally produced fruits and veggies, baked goods, jams, cheeses, etc. If you have a Whole Foods in your area, that supermarket does a great job labeling which foods are local. If you are looking for something other than food, craigslist and yard/garage sales are a great places to find local goods.
In the small city I live in there is a http://www.usedvictoria.com and you can find a lot of local stuff there.
Value Village, Salvation Army, hospital gift shops, – all have a variety of lcoal used things.
For food we have locally owned small markets. Planet Organic sells local food and sells local soaps and much more.
Farmers markets give you great local goods and we even have a greenhouse that sells fresh veggies and salsa.
There are three local wineries, and two local beers.
That’s all I can think of for now.
