There have been many studies done using organic alternatives to fertilizers and pesticides. This is important given that factory farming contributes to huge emissions and pesticides and fertilizers have toxic water run-off that is bad for our health and the health of the environment. Check out the Union of Concerned Scientists and their list of the ways Monsanto (the largest producer of GMOs and the largest corporation behind factory farming) is unsustainable. Their 8th reason in particular pertains to your question, because it describes how it is a myth that GMOs and factory farming are ending world hunger.
