Unburnt free methane in the atmosphere is not eco-friendly but neither is any unconverted material that we use to make energy, and excess and unused energy makes it worse. we need to stop using combustion as our primary method of extracting energy from the environment and just start collecting and converting the available energy. If we were to use the methane instead of lettin it go free and untamed it would end up being some compound of H,O,C. Keep in mind the environment will correct itself and nature will continue in the order of its design, but if we want to remain here we have to find a way to preserve the current cycle.
