As has been found in many areas of the so called “Rust Belt” of the U.S. automobile factories and there former workers can transition into manufacturing wind turbines and other green technologies with only a small investment in retrofitting and training. Thousand of people out of work in the construction industry can also be trained to be solar panel installers, energy auditors, and home weatherizers. But it will take strong progressive initiatives on both the government and nonprofit sectors.
