Could breeding fish on fish farms possibly begin to repopulate the depleted oceans?

Repopulating species is one reason behind fish farming. However, in the case of salmon fish farms, many of them had sea lice, which when introduced into the ocean, contributed to wild salmon deaths. In other cases, efforts to repopulate salmon fish have been successful as fish are moved from the ocean to farms only to be safe when producing offspring. The offspring as well as the parents are then released back into the ocean within 18 months of age in efforts to recover the population.
