Could wind energy be economically viable if there were no subsidies?

Wind energy would be even more cost effective if we eliminated fossil fuel subsidies and paid the true price for these fuels, along with the money we are spending for health and environmental problems caused by their widespread use. Although estimates for the value of subsidies earmarked for fossil fuels range from $200 Million to $1.7 trillion, the amount is keeping the costs down and making wind energy drive down its price further to compete.
