Cork is harvested from Cork Oak trees once they are about 25 years old. Cork is made from their bark, and the process is repeated every 9 years, once the cork oaks renew their bark. This is considered an environmentally friendly procedure, as the cork is an easily renewable resource, and the trees are not harmed in the process of having their bark stripped. Also, cork is easily recyclabe. So, to answer your question, cork is a pretty green choice for flooring.
