Coral is an invertebrate closely related to sea anemones and sea jellies. In fact, the coral reefs you see are actually colonies of living coral polyps that are growing on top of old coral skeletons. They obtain their food from algae living within these colonies or by using stinging cells to capture plankton or even small fish.
