My community garden wants to put in a compostable toilet, but many gardeners are concerned about seepage and other possible health and safety issues
Compostable toilets usually have safety measures, such as safety drains in case of power outage to remove liquids. These toilets, which work by drying out fecal matter to convert it into compost, have been shown to be effective at reducing the amount of fecal coliform bacteria, but tests have not be performed to see if this is effective on more dangerous forms of bacteria that might also be present in fecal matter.
