Is coal energy or nuclear energy worse for the environment?

Coal is worse. Burning coal produces a lot of particle and gaseous byproducts, stuff that the atmosphere would really be better without. Nuclear energy, on the other hand, is both efficient and clean. Although the byproducts remain dangerous for millennia, there’s relatively little waste, the range of radioactivity is generally short, and at the moment the spent materials get buried in deep cement bunkers, which will remain secure for at least a few hundred years, as far as anyone can tell.
