Is coal the most polluting fossil fuel?

    Yes, coal is the most dangerous and most polluting of the fossil fuels.  When coal is burned it releases large amounts of coal ash which enters the air that we breathe and eventually the water that we drink essentially wreaking havoc on the environment and on our bodies.  Coal is considered one of the dirtiest energy sources because it not only produces dirty air, but also acid rain and it contaminates the land.  Almost 25,000 people a year are affected by the harmful byproducts of coal because of diseases like asthma, birth defects, and respiratory diseases.   

    What’s more is that mining coal is extremely dangerous.  In fact, being a coal miner is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.  In 2004, China lost an estimated 6,000 people due to complications in the coal mines.
