Is the soil from cleared rainforest good for agriculture?

Rainforest soil is actually very poor. Usually after a section of rainforest is cut and planted that area will only be fertile for two or three seasons then another area will have to be cut. This is because the top soil layer in rainforests are generally very thin and with out the trees that dominate rainforest environments this layer quickly washes away. That is exactly why slash and burn agriculture is so devasting to the environment.
