Is China doing more than other countries to protect the giant panda?

China has many initiatives to protect the giant panda. The giant panda lives only in China, so China’s efforts to protect this species matter most. There are over 50 reserves in China to protect the giant panda, and laws that punish panda smugglers with a 10+ year jail sentence and confiscation of property. There are also panda breeding programs to increase the population of pandas, and educational programs to inspire the public to protect the species. Currently, the majority of panda habitat is protected by law.
