Is chewing gum bio-degradable?

Many brands of chewing gum today are not biodegradable because they use unnatural ingredients such as elastomers (synthetic rubbers,) resins, or plasticizers. Instead of using chicle, a natural gum that comes from trees, today’s chewing gums  commonly contain petroleum-based polymers.
