The Chevrolet Volt did receive a top 5-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) for meeting the current highest safety standards today. In addition, in April 2011, the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Chevy Volt as being its “Top Safety Pick.” Furthermore, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the car a 5-star rating. Therefore, I do believe that the Chevy Volt is currently one of Chevy’s safest cars.
Electric vehicles in general are very safe cars. Cars that have been converted to run on lead-acid batteries are even safer than cars with lithium-ion batteries such as the Volt because they are very heavy and thus will not stop suddenly in a crash, and you will be less likely to be thrown from the car.
