Is the manufacturing of a CD any different than a DVD?

The basic manufacture of CDs and DVDs is the same, however there are some specific differences in the way data is encoded onto a DVD that allows them to store more (much more) information than can be held on a CD. The basic components of CDs and DVDs are roughly the same: acrylic layered on aluminum layered on polycarbonate plastic.
