A cayman (caiman) is more closely related to an alligator, though it is not exactly an alligator. Both alligators and caimans belong to the same family: alligatoridae, whereas crocodiles belong to the family crocodylidae. The caiman is usually found in South and Central America, while American alligators are in the southeast region of the U.S. Alligators are also double the size of caimans, which grow (males, at least) to about 7 feet long.
