Yes, cardboard is compostable. However, it is recommended that you only compost soiled cardboard, and recycled non-soiled cardboard, as too much cardboard can disrupt the natural composting process.
If you are going to compost cardboard, it helps to wrip it up some, so there is more surface area and doesn’t create anaerobic pockets in your compost pile. Cardboard is a great carbon source for your compost, so if you have an overload of nitrogen materials, cardboard is helpful to balance it out. Cardboard also works well for sheet mulching.
