Is carbon the worst gas for the atmosphere?

Carbon itself is actually a solid (think coal and diamonds). Carbon dioxide, however, IS a gas, and yes, in a sense it is currently the “worst gas for the atmosphere” because out of all the greenhouse gases, it contributes the most to the greenhouse effect. While carbon dioxide is not the most potent gas (per molecule) in the way of trapping radiation inside the Earth’s atmosphere, it is quite abundant in the atmosphere, and its concentration continues to rise and faster and faster rates. Therefore, carbon dioxide is the most injurious gas in today’s atmosphere.
