Canvas itself is not a particularly green material as it is made from cotton, which is a water-intensive crop, and the manufacturing process of course takes energy. However, the fact that it is so sturdy lends products longevity, cutting down on production. Further, reusable canvas bags have become the best replacement for plastic bags, and that alone should qualify canvas as a green material.
