Soda does not hydrate the body as well as water. Soda acts as a diuretic. It contains sugar and caffeine, both of which dehydrate the body. People who drink soda should try to drink extra water to replenish their body’s requirement.
Really water is always the best substance to drink for hydration, especially because your body is made up of mostly water. Nothing else can match it exactly. Electrolytes (found in some infused waters and sports drinks) can be beneficial for immediate hydration after extreme depletion.
