Can you have wind farms with only vertical axis wind turbines?

You could, but so far vertical axis turbines are not as efficient as conventional blade turbines. Wind tends to travel faster as it gets farther from the drag induced by the ground. A vertical turbine, then has only a small portion of its “blade” in the maximum airflow. In a a conventional trubine each blade roatates around to the point where it gets maximum input. Besides that, the aerodymaic shape of the conventional blade is more efficient than the simple “scoop” iea of the vertical turbine.
