Yes! In fact it can supplement detergent, softeners, and bleach. However it cannot scrub clothes clean like detergent can so it cannot completely replace detergent. It’s cleaning properties are more similar to bleach. If you wash clothes by hand or want to get out a stain then you can use baking soda. You can also use about 1/4 cup baking soda in each load of machine wash to get your clothes whiter and softer. Unfortunately you still need at least some detergent to actually get dirt out.
