Is it possible to build a home out of cob in southern Alberta? I have heard that hay works well as it insulates well, but the weather is simply too cold for cob
It’s really dependant on what kind of insulation you use. Cob by itself doesn’t seem to offer sufficient insulation from cold weather and has to be used in conjunction with more efficient insulators, particularly in Alberta where the temperature can get down to significantly below 0. Additionally, you can incorporate other heating techniques such as passive solar heating, attaching a greenhouse and having a thermal mass heater.
