Can whales get sun burned?

Yes! And it seems to be getting worse as UV rays become more intense from holes in the ozone layer. Scientists have taken skin biopsies of whales and found these sunburn damaged cells.

Yes, and it appears that the paler the skin, the worse the damage.  The Blue Whale looks to be suffering the worst of it, though no skin cancer has yet to be documented.  Whales cannot avoid sun exposure, as they breathe, mate, and feed near the surface.  The ozone depletion and/or decreasing cloud cover have been blamed for increasing damage to the skin of affected whales.
