Dutch researchers have found that human saliva will increase the healing rates of wounds. They found a protein in saliva called histatin, which was previously believed to only serve the purpose of killing bacteria, but found to have healing properties when tested scientifically. The new information is going to be geared toward the healing of non-reparative wounds such as diabetic ulcers, as well as severe burns.
