Can we use desalination to get water to the dryer regions of the world?

Yes, we can, and it has been done. Especially for arid locations like Africa, solar desalination plants help deliver water to remote arid areas. This allows for a fresh water supply for people to use for domestic or agricultural purposes. The process uses direct solar radiation to convert seawater into freshwater. Of course, this spawns debates about the desalinating effects on the ecological environment as species are in decline and need the extracted water to survive.
