There is debate over the reliability of the term “locally grown.” Retailers often have a broad definition of what is local. For example, Whole Foods considers ‘local’ anything that can be brought in within seven hours of one of their store locations. Wal-Mart considers ‘local’ anything sold at a store that can be delivered within the same state. So far, there are no legal regulations on labeling a food as local in the US.
