You see the sun’s rays everytime you open your eyes, even at night (except during a new moon). All objects reflect the sun’s light back into your eyes, which allows you to see. When you see straight lines of light from the sun breaking through the clouds, you are actually seeing the sun’s light reflecting off particles of moisture and dust in the atmosphere.
