Can we really use mushrooms to clean up an oil spill?

Mushrooms, coupled with human hair, can actually be used to clean up an oil spill.  Hair naturally absorbs oil from air and water, making it a perfect sponge for an oil slick.  Hair mats can be used to soak up oil, and then oyster mushrooms can be applied to the hair mats.  These mushrooms will grow, absorbing all of the oil and turning the hair mat into a nontoxic compost.

Yes they can be used to clean up oil spills. Oyster mushrooms were used to clean up an oil spill in San Francisco in 2007.
