Can we function if we cut out part of our brains?

Yes, we can. Operations that were widely performed in the 50s to people who had poorly understood mental disorders removed the anterior portion of the frontol lobe of the brain in order to cure and “calm” them. Although controversial, this procedure was performed on many people, and has varying effects on them. The frontol lobe of the brain is responsible for our distinct personal traits and personalities and thus is a less vital part of the brain than say the pituitary gland or the hypothalamus which regulate extremely important basal level and hormonal functions in the body.
