Cow manure produces quite a bit of methane. Methane can be used quite efficiently to produce electricity.
For heat, you can dry manure and burn it, as was common in the midwest back in the 1800s, but you might not want to do that.
Methane, something that is produced naturally and quite abundant, may be a better option than trying to convert cow dung into a liquid biofuel.
