Chewing gum does seem kind of useless, since it’s not really a food and provides no nourishment, and disposal of it can often create a mess, but there are a few good things about it. There are some sugar-free gums which can help clean your teeth (although not as well as a toothbrush), so they’re good after meals and on the go. They can also be used to freshen one’s breath. And, of course, there are nicotine gums which can help people reduce cigarette cravings and quit smoking.
