Can urea-formaldehyde foam insulation be safely removed from old houses?

Yes, it can, but it’s an expensive process that needs to be done by a professional. A Certified Restoration Environmental Contractor can be hired to do it for you. Despite the cost, it’s important to have UFFI (as it is shortened to) removed from your walls. The off-gassing of formaldehyde can have severe detrimental effects on your health. If you cannot afford to have it removed, you can also follow practices to seal it off so you will at least be protected to some degree from its effects.
