Yes, and this form of producing energy (known as “waste to energy”) is used extensively in Europe and less often in the United States. There are 87 waste to energy facilities in the United States which produce energy from trash by burning it. Other ways include of producing energy from waste include fermenting organic waste to produce ethanol and placing waste in oxygen-free containers so it can break down to produce various greenhouse gases.
