I’m not sure if you are using tin foil synonymously with aluminum foil. Tin foil predates aluminum. In some cases they are used to mean the same thing, and are effective at keeping cold foods somewhat cold and warm foods warm, though they seem to be more effective at the latter. With aluminum foil you can enhance the cooling properties by wrapping the food item with the shiny side of the foil on the outside; this will serve to deflect heat more effectively.
