Spray cans are primarily made of steel, which can be recycled. The trick is to make sure they are empty. You can take empty steel cans to any recycling center as these cans are made up of at least 25% steel.
If the can is completely empty, it is safe to recycle it. But because of the dangerous chemicals left in partially empty cans, recycling procedures can start to get more complicated. They will most likely need to be taken to a specialized disposal location where they can be disassembled properly. Otherwise, the cans will more than likely be dumped in a landfill or incinerated because the materials are difficult to reuse.
