It can be. Anytime you use a microphone, sound is technically being converted to an electrical signal. Harvesting energy from sound would be a much more difficult proposition—you’d need some setup where sound waves turned a coil, and the turning coil generated an electrical current. It probably wouldn’t be very efficient.
