Trees grow through photosynthesis, which uses sunlight as the energy to power the process of converting water and carbon dioxide in the air to make oxygen and sugar. The more sunlight a tree has access to, the more sugar and oxygen it can produce given ample water and carbon dioxide. The oxygen produced this way is released into the atmosphere, and the sugar is digested by the plant and gives it the energy to grow. Therefore, solar power is key in allowing trees to grow.
