Can solar power completely replace fossil fuels for electricity production?

If sufficient technology were developed to fully capture the sun’s energy and put 100 percent of it to use, solar power would definitely be able to replace fossil fuels for all types of power production. The light that reaches the Earth from the sun in a single hour harbors more than enough energy to power the entire globe for an entire year. Unfortunately, it looks as if we’re a long way from developing technology that would be able to effectively cultivate this source of energy on a scale that would rival the amount of energy produced by fossil fuel combustion.
