While most of the paper thin solar cells are printed on a special plastic or paper sheet, MIT researchers successfully printed solar cells onto regular paper. They used a process similar to that of an inkjet printer, and the fact that they were successful is extremely good for the industry. If people can buy paper thin solar cells and use a staple gun to put them pretty much anywhere, then there is a lot of energy producing potential. While the paper thin solar cells aren’t as efficient or durable as the larger ones, the fact that they have such of a wide range of uses is great.
