Can snow be contaminated with pollutants even though it looks clean?

It’s been discovered that the snow in Antarctica, where most people assume the snow is clean, is being affected by the change in the atmosphere contaminants. Lead contaminants in Greenland snow are believed to have increased significantly over time. Since there are places in Antarctica where the snow never melts, the snow there and the contaminants can be studied to show how contaminants have grown over time.
