Your running shoes can be recycled. Companies such as Nike have recycle boxes in their stores, and these companies break down the shoes in such a way that the parts are re-used in other applications. For example, Nike uses the rubber to build running tracks, the padding is used for basketball courts, and the foam is used to create the spring effect in running shoes. The whole shoe is can be recycled.
You can also reuse your shoes. There should be donation sites around your area where you can drop off shoes to be reused, or Salvation Army and Goodwill all take shoes.
