Can a rattlesnake kill itself by biting itself?

While this is a controversial subject, there are studies that prove a rattlesnake is not immune to its own venom.  Due to a large number of reports claiming that rattlesnakes have died from their own venom, in August 1932 an experiment was tried.  2 rattlesnakes were forcibly bitten by each other in a controlled environment.  The smaller of the snakes, 28 inches long, died in a matter of 2 hours.  The larger rattlesnake, 33 inches long, was so sickly after 6 hours that they put it to death.
