Theoretically, yes. The amount of solar energy hitting the earth is mind boggling – if we were to capture all of the solar energy in just one hour, we could power the earth for a whole year. But solar panels suffer from high cost and low efficiency. As the technology gets better, we will be able to use more solar energy, and eventually get to the point where it could indeed provide all of our energy needs. But a well balanced energy policy would use other renewables as well, like wind and geothermal.
