Space ships and satelittes already utlize solar panels as a means of energy production so yes it can be ocllected in outer space.
Yes, and in addition to the spaceships and satellites that use solar power, scientists are looking to space based solar power initiatives to help relieve our dependence on fossil fuels. Right now, only a fraction of sun’s energy actually reaches the Earth’s surface. This is because both our atmosphere and clouds reflect and repel a part of the sun’s solar radiation. Meanwhile, the sun’s rays remain at full strength just outside the Earth’s atmosphere in space. Scientists are trying to find a way to put solar collectors into space and then transmit the energy down to Earth. This would be an extremely efficient form of energy production, especially as solar panels become more efficient in collecting the sun’s energy.
